A condition in which high levels of a hormone cause the body to retain water.

In this condition, high levels of the anti-diuretic hormone (ADH) are produced, causing the body to retain water instead of passing it through the urine. ADH is also known as vasopressin hormone. This upsets the body's balance of minerals and electrolytes, especially sodium.

Symptoms include nausea and vomiting, headache, confusion, weakness, and fatigue.

Treatments include limiting fluid intake and, possibly, medicines to adjust the electrolyte balance. Underlying conditions also need treatment.
